An interactive presentation with students centered on our abilities to adapt - hosted by Marc Romero, former US Adaptive Ski Team member and documentary filmmaker.

 

General Overview:

“Heroes of the Slopes” is a landmark documentary film on the top adaptive skiers and stories of our time that was created and produced by former US Adaptive Ski Team racer and top free-skier Marc Romero.  The documentary program was recognized for its educational and inspirational value and was picked up by and seen all throughout PBS.   In order to reach and benefit younger audiences and to derive the greatest interactive, educational and inspirational value from the film, a school presentation and tour has evolved from the doc/film where students learn not only about today’s top adaptive skiing, its history and its heroes from the film segments, but also about today’s top adaptive and rehabilitative devices and technologies from the interactive discussions and Q&As with Marc.

Marc will screen segments from film, discuss, and do Questions and Answers with kids on:


  1. His own accident/injury and rehabilitation.

  2. Finding skiing and sports, making the US Adaptive Ski Team and racing, top free-skiing and filming pursuits and new trails blazed in and for adaptive skiing.

  3. Advances in prosthetics and other disability assistive devices.

  4. “Behind the Scenes” with his characters and stories

  5. Importance of ski helmet usage to help prevent brain injury

Presentation Length and Format:

Can be anywhere from 40 to 75 minutes in length, tailored to suit schools’ needs.   Segments shown and topics discussed are based on the ages of the audiences and time lengths requested.   Part of the time is spent projecting and part of the time is spent speaking to and in discussions with students.
